In the Gulf of Mexico and the Gulf of Sargassum, a large clumps of free floating, unlike other seaweeds, resembling leaves and berries, "berries" are actually hollow air sacs, which float the leaves in the water. The common ink-horned algae in the intertidal zone of the British Isles (F. Vesiculosis) is also floated by air sacs.
